Wireless LAN
This page covers only the WLAN operated centrally by IIG.
We cannot provide any information about other WLANs (operated by e.g. departments).
Wireless LAN service is available at BME. The WLAN infrastructure provides
Internet access via IEEE 802.11 capable devices (laptops,
cell phones, tablets, etc.) for staff and students of our university,
as well as for eduroam users.
BME is a member of the eduroam
federation. eduroam lets users connect to the Internet securely and
comfortably in every eduroam member institution world-wide.
Using eduroam guest users arriving from other eduroam institutions
can connect to the Internet at BME, in addition to our own students and staff,
while BME users can connect to the network in other eduroam institutions.
BME's eduroam infrastructure operates, however
it is under construction. This basically means two things for the eduroam
users:
- support is not complete yet
- setting up authentication may be uneasy for BME users
(guests are not affected)
These shortcomings will be resolved when the BME eduroam infrastructure goes to production.
